Hoppus grew up near Washington, D.C. before moving to Ridgecrest, California with his family. Aaron and Lempi Orrenmaa, his maternal great-grandparents, were Laihia-born immigrants from Finland.

Mark is married to Skye Everly. The two met at a rehearsal for the music video for “All the Small Things” in August 1999, when Skye was working as a talent manager for MTV.
Although Skye initially resisted the idea of dating Hoppus, she softened her stance after his persistence. The pair eventually got married the following year on December 2, 2000.

Hoppus and Everly share a son named Jack. He was born in 2002. When he was nine years of age, the family relocated to London and lived there for a couple of years as Mark’s band, blink-182 was in the process of completing its sixth album.
